ICT as a constructive tool
Camtasia Studio
This photo was taken during the recording of PowerPoint using Camtasia studio. It was fun and interesting, and I gained many new knowledge. It helped me to improve my patience as well.
Reflection
Camtasia Studio is a screen recording and video editing tool software which I found it very helpful as a constructive tool in my teaching and learning. Constructive tools help me to create my own learning materials and actively construct knowledge. Instead of being the recipient of information, I used tools like camtasia to construct own understanding by sharing ideas, creating video and explaining the concepts. Camtasia studios serve as a constructive tool as it allows learners and teachers to record their own screen and voice to explain a topic. For example, I created a PowerPoint presentation where I included features and animations on it. Then I used camtasia to record my presentation and edit the video. This helped me to build confidence to use camtasia video in a future to teach my students.
Camtasia studio allow to edit the video as well. I am able to split, cut the video, insert text and add background music. This makes the video more interesting. When students or teachers create these types of videos, they are not only learning content, but they are also learning how to teach, explain, present their ideas and communicate clearly. Camtasia also supports self-paced learning where students can watch anytime. Once a video is created and uploaded by teacher, learners can watch it anytime, pause or rewind to better understand a topic. This is very much helpful for students who learn at different pace. Therefore, camtasia supports both the teacher and students. From my experience, using camtasia made me feel confident because I had to first plan, organize and explain the concept in my own word. It helped me to develop my creativity and patience.
I had many questions popping in my head like, "How can I explain this clearly? What examples should I use? What background would suit this video?". This kind of questions helped me to explore more about my learning. Camtasia can be use by students to create video assignments or presentations. Instead of writing down the essays or write up, they can show what they learnt and reflection through video. This offers them more choice to share and express their ideas. Not only for teachers but camtasia will help students to promote active participation. When students make video explaining a topic or present their project using camtasia, they engage deeply with the content. This will help them to remember better and understand the topic clearly.
Many students and even teachers have low self-confident about using technology. It helps users slowly build confidence by using features such as adding captions, call out, voice over and basic effects. Camtasia also encourage self-reflection. When we watch our own recorded video, we are able to analyze our mistakes, tone, clarity and expression. This improves the speaking and presentation skills over time. We can re-record the parts if the first one didn't go well. Camtasia saves time as once a teacher creates a video lesson it can be used again. This also save effort for the repeated topics. Thereby, helping the teacher spend more time supporting individual student instead of repeating the same lecture.
In conclusion, camtasia studio is a great example of constructive tool. It gives students and teachers the opportunity to create, explain and reflect. It makes learning fun, active and personal. It also supports different learning styles, and build skills like communication, creativity and digital literacy. Therefore, camtasia truly helps in constructing knowledge through technology.
